Amy Hillyard: Vigil held for Oakland coffee shop owner missing since March

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- For the dozens gathered at an Oakland vigil Monday night, Amy Hillyard is never far from their minds.

The 52-year-old mother and wife is still missing after last being seen near her home in late March.

"It's been terrible. We wake up every single day thinking about her. We go to bed every single night thinking about her," said Alexandra.

Hillyard's sister, Alexandra, says two months on and the whole experience is still surreal.

"You see it on the news. You see it with different people and you just never think that it's real or that it'll happen to you," she said.

At Monday's vigil, friends and family prayed, lit candles and offered support for one another.

Speaking to the crowd, Hillyard's husband, Chris, said the uncertainty of the situation has been one of the hardest things to deal with.

"Not knowing where she is. Not knowing what happened. And not being able to bring her home and hold her in my arms," he said.

The vigil is focused on Hillyard, but it's also about the hundreds of other people who go missing in Oakland every single year.

Something that was symbolized by yellow ribbon pins that were worn by people there.

"That was really important for all of us, especially as we're going into more than two months here. There are people who are still missing and it's important to keep their hope alive," said Tejal Patel.

And keeping that hope alive is exactly what Hillyard's family plans to do.

Determind to keep searching for answers. To keep searching for Amy.

"I take strength in knowing how much I love her and knowing that I would do anything for her and will do anything for her," said Alexandra.

Since her disappearance, there have been no major breakthroughs in Hillyard's case.
