SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Arriving in a distinctly San Franciscan cable car, Mayor Daniel Lurie, Warriors star Stephen Curry and famous chef Michael Mina joined dozens outside the Westin in Union Square Tuesday.
The trio were joined by other prominent city leaders, and even a disco bison. Everyone was there for the debut of Mina's new hotel restaurant, Bourbon Steak, as well as the new bar, The Eighth Rule, which is a partnership between Mina and Curry.

"We want to bring community. We want to bring fun. We want to bring culture. That's what San Francisco's about," Curry said.
The energy inside the restaurant was palpable Tuesday night -- the type of vibe officials are hoping to bring back to Union Square.

"If you want it, we are going to have it for you. We're meeting the moment post-pandemic. It's about experiences. It's about retail that people want," said Marisa Rodriguez, CEO of the Union Square Alliance.
She says after being decimated during the pandemic and the years after, Union Square is once again the thriving center of San Francisco.
In the past few months, several high-profile stores have opened in the shopping hub. And earlier this week, another one -- Japanese clothing brand Uniqlo -- announced it, too, will open up a new flagship a few blocks away in 2026.
All of it is part of a bigger push to breathe new life into the city's urban core, said Mayor Daniel Lurie. On Tuesday, he announced the city was expanding the number of liquor licenses being given out to downtown establishments.

"Every single day, we're going to be relentless in bringing tourism and conventions and business back," Lurie said.
With all of the excitement surrounding Bourbon Steak and The Eighth Rule, Rodriguez says there's even more on the way, teasing more big name announcements and experiences for everyone in San Francisco to enjoy.
"We're doing the work now, and we expect the years to come to be absolutely exciting," Rodriguez said.
Both the restaurant and the bar are set to open on Friday, Oct. 10.
