DALY CITY, Calif. (KGO) -- Police officers and Department of Fish and Wildlife staffers are keeping watch on a Daly City neighborhood this evening, after a resident spotted a mountain lion in her yard Monday.

Laurie Golub made the discovery around 9 o'clock, when she and her dogs stepped into their backyard on Westmoor Avenue, and the dogs immediately began barking.

"As I approached the tree in our backyard, I noticed a very long bushy tail, so I went under the tree and I looked up, and there was a huge mountain lion looking down at me. I ran and screamed and I was able to get the dogs back inside, and slammed the door."

The Golub's say they've seen coyotes in their neighborhood before, but never a mountain lion.

Of course, experts say it's not a great idea to run away from a mountain Lion -- it's best to make yourself as big as possible and back up slowly.

Residents are being asked to keep pets and children inside.
