
OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- Two people are dead after the stolen SUV they were driving crashed into an Oakland police vehicle, injuring an officer on Monday, according to officials.
The incident happened just after 11 a.m. on E. 12th Street near 29th Avenue.
According to the Oakland Housing Authority, one of its officers spotted the SUV driving erratically and attempted to pull it over, but the suspects sped off. The officer did not engage in a pursuit.
The SUV continued down E. 12th Street when it hit the marked OPD car at a high rate of speed - sources tell ABC7 Eyewitness News the patrol vehicle was not involved in the call.
The officer was taken to the hospital, but their condition is unknown at the time.
The two people in the stolen SUV were pronounced dead at the scene.
A third suspect ran away from the scene after the crash but was taken into custody a short time later by an Oakland Housing Authority officer.
