First snow blankets Lake Tahoe on Thanksgiving

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (KGO) -- People celebrating Thanksgiving in the Sierra were treated to the first snowfall of the season.

The snow began falling on Wednesday evening and Sierra-at-Tahoe resort says more than a foot fell overnight.

The National Weather Service in Reno and local highway patrol warned people to drive safe and use chains on their tires where required.
