BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. -- A Florida police officer is accused of taking possession of a dead man's home for years.
Police arrested 35-year-old Brian Sguros this week.
The Lauderhill police officer is facing several felony charges following a joint investigation by the Broward Sheriff's Office and Broward County Property Appraiser's Office Crimes Against Property Unit, according to authorities.
He is accused of illegally taking over Dennis West's home four years ago after responding to a welfare check in 2022 and finding the man dead of natural causes.
Broward County investigators say he then created a complex scheme to take control of West's home and allegedly used the victim's identity to obtain permits to renovate the residence over the years.
The investigation into the matter remains ongoing.
