San Bruno police find human remains after fire, deadly shooting

SAN BRUNO, Calif. (KGO) -- San Bruno police say that human remains were found while investigating the aftermath of a house fire that followed a deadly shooting on Friday.

Police say the incident started as a shooting investigation at around 3 p.m., on Keefe Court near Rosewood Drive.

The shooting victim, a 31-year-old man, was taken to the hospital but later died from his wounds.

As for the shooter, that's a bit of a mystery.

Police have not indicated whether there was an arrest or if the suspect was inside the home when it went up in flames.

On Saturday, police confirmed that human remains were discovered inside the home. The San Mateo County Coroner's Office will be working to identify the remains and determine the cause of death.

Some residents had to be evacuated during the fire, but they were back in their homes Friday night.

"San Bruno is a safe community. This is a rare type of occurrence here, and I understand from the community it can be particularly alarming," said San Bruno Police Dept. Chief Matt Lethin.

San Bruno police said they had no prior calls for problems at the home and say this appears to be an isolated incident.
