Dublin man allegedly shot, killed by in-laws suffered anti-trans abuse, court records reveal

DUBLIN, Calif. (KGO) -- New details are emerging about the shocking daytime shooting death of a man in a Dublin sports park, allegedly killed by his elderly in-laws last Saturday. Hundreds of pages of court documents related to the man's contentious divorce reveal the victim claimed he suffered abuse as a transgender man - at the hands of the suspects and their daughter, his wife.
The 77-year-old suspects are set for their first court appearance Wednesday morning.
Court documents paint a picture of what was going on in the victim's life leading up to this shooting, a marriage filled with tension and with competing claims of abuse.

The suspects both reportedly took turns shooting.
In court filings in a very contentious divorce case, McKinsey says his wife's father punched him in the chest while he was recovering from a double mastectomy, and that his wife tried to pull medical tubes from his chest shortly after the surgery. In another instance, he accused her of hitting him with a frying pan.
McKinsey, who is transgender, accused his mother-in-law of calling him "a pervert" and saying he influenced his son to wear dresses.

After McKinsey's wife accused him of slapping their 6-year-old son across the face and leaving a bruise, prosecutors charged him with misdemeanor cruelty and corporal injury to a child. He was due in court on October 2 on that case, but was shot to death before that could happen.
People living in the same neighborhood as the family are still dealing with the shock of what happened.
"It's a quiet neighborhood," said neighbor Deepa Duvvuru. "Break-ins do happen but homicides, you don't hear of them very often. I heard that this happened in daylight. It's pretty crazy and at a sports complex where the kids are around, that's pretty shocking. I can't imagine what the kids are going through."

McKinsey and his wife filed for restraining orders against each other, both listing several alleged instances of abuse to their three children and to each other.
McKinsey had taken parenting and anger management classes and one instructor wrote that they saw the potential for "increased child safety" as a result. We'll hear more about what may have led up to this shooting in the days ahead.
