Kaiser nurses in Oakland to go on 1-day strike Monday

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- Kaiser Permanente patients may see picketing workers Monday at two locations, Oakland and Roseville.

More than 600 nurses are expected to strike for one day. Many have been negotiating a contract for nearly a year and a half.

The main issues are salaries, understaffing and burnout.

"Anesthetists staffing has reached a crisis level such that Kaiser is having to close operating rooms, reduce operating hours and this reduces the access to care for Kaiser patients," Kaiser Anesthetist Sanne Jacobsen.

Kaiser says its hospitals and medical offices will remain open and there are plans in place to continue to care for patients.

The health care provider says the strike includes 1,300 of its 90,000 health care professionals in Northern California.

Kaiser says contract talks are scheduled and it will continue to bargain in good faith to reach an agreement.
