SAN JOSE, Calif. -- San Jose Sharks star center Macklin Celebrini returned from a two-game absence with a lower-body injury, scoring his first goal of the season Saturday in a 3-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers.

Celebrini was a late scratch from the lineup in a game against the Dallas Stars on Monday night, and he proceeded to miss his club's 3-2 overtime win over the St. Louis Blues on Thursday.

But he was back to business Saturday at home, skating in 24 shifts covering 21:59 time on ice. He finished with two shots, two hits and two minutes in penalties.

In the end, it wasn't enough. Connor McDavid recorded his 13th point of the season and 10th assist as the Edmonton Oilers raced to their fourth straight win.

Vasily Podkolzin scored his fifth goal while Mattias Ekholm and Alex Formenton also scored for Edmonton. Tristan Jarry stopped 19 shots.

Ekholm opened the scoring at 12:37 of the first period. Podkolzin extended Edmonton's lead 3:13 into the third, with McDavid recording the assist. He moved ahead of Jack Eichel for the league lead in points and assists.

Formenton made it 3-0 on a backhand shot about two minutes later.

Celebrini, the first-year captain, got San Jose on the board midway through the third period, but the Sharks could not complete the comeback. Yaroslav Askarov made 17 saves for San Jose in the loss.
