Meet Taku: Bay Area company's AI robot loads washers, folds towels and stocks shelves

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (KGO) -- A Redwood City company gave ABC7 Eyewitness News an exclusive preview of a new semi-humanoid robot designed to complete workplace tasks without human assistance.

DYNA Robotics said the robot is built to perform full workflows on its own. According to the company, the robot can load washers, fold towels, chop vegetables, stock shelves and complete other tasks.

The company said the technology is already being used in hotels, restaurants and laundromats.

"For the longest time I think robots usually sits behind the screen a lot of people get to watch the demos and it looks really cool but what DYNA does is were bringing robots into real life. we're making it commercially viable. we're making it so that humans can actually use robots to help them add value into day to day life," DYNA Robotics CEO Lindon Gao said.

The company has named the robot Taku, a name derived from the Japanese word "Takumi," meaning master craftsman.

DYNA Robotics said the robot is intended to help people add value to their day-to-day lives by taking on workplace tasks.
