San Francisco crews have suspended the search for 35-year-old swimmer Nikolas Tomasevic who went missing at Aquatic Park Cove on Saturday.

Tomasevic had gone missing Saturday morning.

On Monday, San Francisco's swimming community held on to hope as the hours and days went by without any sight of Tomasevic.

"Very strong swimmer and dedicated swimming. He would swim year-round, winter and summer," said swimmer George Robyn.

Robyn knew Tomasevic and was concerned he might have had a medical episode.

"A seizure- that if he had a seizure in the water that would be it. He said that, kind of in passing to someone else in the past," said Robyn.

Multiple city agencies began searching for Nikolas Saturday afternoon after the swimmer he was with reported him missing.

"Unfortunately, that person waited four hours to let us know. That is the gap in time that doesn't really allow us to get a pinpoint location," said Lt. Mariano Elias with SFFD. "We worked with the police department, the coast guard and highway patrol to try to look using sonar and basically try to see where that person was, we had no luck finding them."

The Dolphin Swimming and Boating Club where Nikolas was a member placed the flags at half-staff to honor him.

"This is a tight community, and Nikolas was part of it as are his friends. It's a sad day here," said Ken Coren, Vice President of Dolphin Swimming and Boating Club.
