OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- Oakland's 911 system is down after the city's emergency communications center lost service to its phone lines, internet and computer-aided dispatch system, according to Oakland Police Chief James Beere.
Beere said the outage began more than 15 hours before officials provided an update on Thursday.
"OPD dispatchers noticed CAD froze and error message. Discovered no service to phone lines, internet or CAD," Beere said.
Operators from Oakland's 911 center have been relocated to the fire department's dispatch center while crews work to restore service.
Emergency calls are being handled by the Alameda County Sheriff's Office and relayed to Oakland police, officials said.
Authorities said only priority calls are being handled during the outage.
AT&T is working to restore services.
Officials did not provide an estimated timeline for when the city's 911 system would be fully operational again.
There are reports of similar outages being experienced at other departments across the state.
