
COLMA, Calif. -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.2 struck 1.8 miles south-southwest of Colma at 5:03 p.m. Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The quake was measured at a depth of about 4 kilometers. The closer to the surface an earthquake starts, the more ground shaking and potential damage it will cause.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, people typically report feeling earthquakes larger than about magnitude 2.5.
