CA police K-9 recovering after piece of ear allegedly bitten off by man, authorities say

REDONDO BEACH, Calif. (KGO) -- A police K-9 is recovering after a man allegedly bit part of his ear off during a standoff, according to The Redondo Beach Police Department.

Police say the suspect, a wanted felon, barricaded himself inside a home and refused to surrender.

Police sent Wouter inside the home to help officers arrest the man. The suspect then bit the dog and tore off a portion of his ear, police said.

The Redondo Beach Police Department posted photos of Wouter on Facebook.

"Wouter" means "powerful warrior" in Dutch.

"Wishing our bestest boy a speedy recovery, and want him to get all the scratchies and treats," the department posted on Facebook.
