Roblox launches age-based account tiers worldwide

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A Bay Area gaming company is now launching age-based accounts worldwide.

Roblox made the announcement just a month after rolling it out here in the U.S.

This is part of the company's crackdown on in-app communication between users, with many states and families accusing Roblox of becoming a hunting ground for predators

There are three tiers for the age-based accounts:

  • Roblox Kids for ages 5 through 8

  • Roblox Select for ages 9 through 15

  • Standard Roblox account for ages 16 and up

Roblox said chat remains disabled for users younger than 9 years old and that age checks are required to use chat features. Parents will be able to adjust settings for children until they turn 16.

More information can be found on Roblox's website.
