San Jose's Winchester Mystery House turns up the terror at Festival Fright Nights

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- Festival Fright Nights has returned to the Winchester Mystery House, transforming the historic San Jose estate with haunted attractions, immersive storytelling and seasonal experiences through Nov. 1.

The Halloween event, produced by Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group in partnership with Winchester Mystery House, festival features three haunted attractions, including the new House of Spirits experience.

Visitors Chloe Verble and her niece, Daphne Meidinger, were among those navigating the attraction's darkened hallways and narrow stairways. Meidinger celebrated her 14th birthday at the event.

"It got way more intense really quickly and I think because the rooms got like smaller and darker, it got way scarier as you kept going," Verble said. "And the stairways got smaller and smaller."

Festival Fright Nights incorporates the history of the Winchester Mystery House and its former owner, Sarah Winchester, who lived in the home from 1886 to 1922.

The mansion contains 160 rooms, 2,000 doors and 47 stairways, some that lead to nowhere.

One of the event's new attractions, House of Spirits, follows the story of Sarah Winchester's butler after her death as he attempts to care for the estate while struggling to contain supernatural activity throughout the mansion.

The festival also includes interactive experiences throughout the property, along with games, seasonal food and beverages.

Tickets start at $60.99 on select nights, according to organizers.
