Security video shows hit-and-run crash at Petaluma Taco Bell; police searching for white Infiniti

PETALUMA, Calif. (KGO) -- Petaluma police are asking for the public's help identifying a hit-and-run driver caught on surveillance video after crashing into multiple parked vehicles and fleeing the scene.

Dramatic security footage released by investigators shows a white Infiniti driving recklessly through the Taco Bell parking lot at Lakeville Highway and East Washington Street before slamming into two parked cars. Moments later, the driver reverses and quickly leaves the area.

Police say two males were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.

"I hope they find the person who did this, because that's just crazy," said Petaluma resident Pam Caswell.

Investigators believe the same vehicle continued driving through the area after leaving the parking lot and struck a fire hydrant on Edith Street. Despite an extensive search, officers were unable to locate the suspect vehicle.

"Oh! So that's what happened," Caswell said after learning about the hydrant crash. "I did see a lot of water the next morning when I ran my errands."

One of the vehicles damaged in the parking lot belonged to a Taco Bell employee. Video shared with ABC7 shows a Lexus with significant front-end damage following the collision.

Police are now urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward, especially if they know someone who owns a white Infiniti with recent front-end damage.

Authorities have not determined what led to the reckless driving but say impairment is one possible factor under investigation.

Caswell says it's fortunate the incident did not result in injuries.
