SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KGO) -- Hundreds of items from the late Willie Mays' legendary baseball career will go up for auction this weekend.

Among the highlights from the collection are Gold Gloves, Mays' 1954 World Series ring, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and his National Baseball Hall of Fame Induction ring.

Collectors got their first look Monday at the pieces from Mays' personal collection going up for sale.

The San Francisco Giants lost to the Cubs Wednesday in Chicago, but much of the talk at Oracle park was about Willie Mays.

The live auction takes place this Saturday and an online-only auction featuring hundreds of additional items will happen Sunday.

Proceeds will go toward the "Say Hey Foundation" started by Mays 25 years ago to help underprivileged kids.

ABC7 Sports Anchor Chris Alvarez spoke with David Hunt, the president of Hunt Auctions.

"The collection really shows people not just his statistics and how many home runs he hit and how many All-Star games he was in, all of which were amazingly impressive, but what he did off the field," Hunt said.
