World's largest Monopoly board gets spruced up in South Bay

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- A band of volunteers gave San Jose's "Monopoly in the Park" a much-needed makeover Saturday.

The 930-square-foot granite Monopoly board is part of Discovery Meadow. It opened up in 2002.

Over the years, its paint has been dulled and scuffed up by the people playing and walking on it.

"This is one of our most utilized parks for public events and stuff. So, it's really giving the opportunity for people from all over to come in and see the board and jump around and play on it and have a good time," said Emily Lansing, community event director for the office of Mayor Matt Mahan.

The giant game board isn't just for show or social media posts.

The Monopoly in the Park website says it actually has giant pieces -- including oversized dice and life-sized tokens -- that can be rented for playing a game.
