NEW YORK CITY -- More than 122,000 cases of Gatorade have been recalled across 37 states after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration classified the action as a Class II recall involving undeclared food dyes.
The recall affects 122,021 cases of 28-ounce bottles of Gatorade Lemon Lime, Gatorade Lemon Lime Zero, Gatorade Orange and Gatorade Orange Zero, according to the FDA. The products were recalled because they contain undeclared Yellow No. 5 and/or Yellow No. 6.
The recall was voluntarily initiated by PepsiCo on Sept. 25 and was classified by the FDA on Oct. 2. The action remains ongoing.
Affected products were distributed in 37 states, including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, Texas and California.
The FDA assigned the recall a Class II designation, meaning use of or exposure to the product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, or that the probability of serious health consequences is remote.
No press release has been issued for the recall, according to the FDA's enforcement report. Consumers can identify affected products by checking the lot numbers listed in the recall notice.
