Man dragged to death after bag caught in doors of NYC train in Brooklyn

A man was killed after being dragged by a train at a Brooklyn subway station Monday evening when his bag became caught in closing train doors, according to authorities.

The fatal incident happened just before 5:50 p.m. at the Utica Avenue station, near Fulton Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

Investigators said the man's bag became trapped in the doors of a southbound A train as it was preparing to leave the station. It wasn't immediately clear if he was getting on or off the train at the time.

As the train pulled away, the man -- who is said to be in his 50s -- was dragged along the platform and struck a pole, suffering severe trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim's identity was not immediately released.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and how the rider became caught in the train doors.
