PHILADELPHIA -- A 3-year-old girl died after being trapped inside a burning rowhome in Philadelphia's Fairhill neighborhood, fire officials said.
The fire broke out around 3:30 a.m. Sunday in the 3300-Block of D Street.
Doorbell camera video shows neighbors help rescue a 5-year-old boy and his 24-year-old mother from a second-story window.
"Once I checked my cameras to see what was going on, I saw the smoke, and we came out." Gisella Fleitas lives next door and shared video ABC affiliate WPVI.
Although the woman and her son made it out safely, the woman's 22-year-old sister and her 3-year-old girl were still trapped. Neighbors once again tried to help.
"They tried to go in but they couldn't. There was too much smoke. They couldn't see anything," Fleitas adds.
Firefighters arrived on the scene and pulled the girl and her mother out.
"They were transported to the hospital. Advanced life support measures were conducted en route to the hospital," says Philadelphia Fire Department Deputy Chief Anthony Bompadre.
The little girl later died at the hospital. Her mother is still fighting for her life.
"Supposedly, I spoke with her father, and she's in very critical condition. He doubts that she's gonna survive," says one neighbor.
Fleitas says, "It was very scary at the moment. It was very emotional. Knowing that the little girl passed, also, that's very heartbreaking."
Investigators determined a lithium-ion E-bike battery in the upstairs bedroom caused the fire and say there were no smoke detectors in the home.
The victim's name has not been released.
