2 employees killed, 1 hurt in workplace shooting in Virginia; suspect dead: police

MANASSAS, Va. -- An employee allegedly opened fire in an act of "workplace violence" in Virginia, killing two coworkers and wounding a third, before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.
The shooting unfolded Wednesday morning at United Rentals in Manassas, a city about 30 miles outside of Washington, D.C., according to Manassas police.
"There was some kind of altercation," and the suspect, Marvin Grant, "pulled a pistol from his waistband and shot the three victims," Manassas Police Chief Douglas Keen said at a news conference.
Keen said authorities do not know a motive, but he noted that Grant allegedly said, "three people are going to die."
The chief identified the two slain victims as Ricky Lamot, 48, and Christopher Serrano, 33.
The chief said he knew Lamot personally.

"The man was dedicated to coaching youth football," Keen said, adding, "knowing his children are now fatherless, it hits home."
The third victim, a man whose identity was not released, is in stable condition and will survive, the chief said.
Grant fled the scene of the shooting, according to police.
Grant was spotted later in the morning driving on Interstate 81 in Augusta County, Virginia, and when police tried to pull him over, he led officers on a chase, Virginia State Police said.
The 37-year-old from Charlotte, North Carolina, later pulled over on the side of the interstate, got out of his car and pulled out a gun, police said. State police sent a tactical team and a negotiator to the site, but Grant died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
