A United Airlines flight traveling from San Francisco to San Jose del Cabo returned to San Francisco International Airport shortly after takeoff Thursday due to a tire blowout.
An Alaska Airlines 737 and a FedEx 777 cargo plane nearly collided as they attempted to land on intersecting runways at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, according to radar data from FlightRadar24.
Video from the scene shows the Boeing 787 stopped on the runway as smoke poured from its left engine, and evacuation slides were deployed. Passengers can be seen running away from the aircraft while emergency vehicles surrounded the plane.
The pilot's lawyers say Boeing's attempts to deflect liability led to the pilot being sued by some passengers and caused him great distress.
The plane returned to the airport after losing power in one engine, according to United Airlines.
Released cockpit audio and dash cam footage help reconstruct the emergency on a 2023 flight to San Francisco when an off-duty pilot, who had taken psychedelic mushrooms two days before, tried to shut down the engines. "I was trying to wake up," he said.
