Newly released photos show dramatic Naval search-and-rescue off CA coast

MORO BAY, Calif. (KGO) -- We're getting a first look at the dramatic rescue off the central coast.

Newly released photos show a search-and-rescue team preparing to deploy a swimmer after a Hawker Hunter jet went down in the Pacific near Morro Bay Tuesday night.

Medics can be seen treating the pilot after pulling him from the water.

The pilot had reported engine trouble before ejecting from the aircraft. Crews took him to a hospital in Fresno.

The Navy has now grounded the Hawker Hunters operated by contractor ATAC, which has offices in the South Bay.

The company said this is standard procedure as the NTSB and FAA investigate.

Officials said that the pilot remains in the hospital but is in "great condition, great spirits," with no significant injuries.
