LIVERMORE, Calif. (KGO) -- The East Bay commute through Livermore is recovering after Police activity created a traffic mess for hours on eastbound Interstate 580.
Around 1 p.m. Friday, all eastbound lanes of I-580 are closed at CA-84 in Livermore due to a person on a freeway overpass.
"We are negotiating with an individual on the overpass experiencing a mental health crisis," California Highway Patrol posted on X just before 3 p.m.
This prompted 511 SF Bay to issue a severe traffic alert for eastbound Interstate 580.
SKY7 video showed traffic backed up for miles away from the affected area.
Shortly before 4 p.m. however, the CHP said the issue had been resolved peacefully and that all lanes were reopened.
511 SF Bay said that commuters could still experience residual delays and urged motorists to delay travel through that area if possible.
