Crews rescue sea lion pup found on side of street in San Francisco's Outer Sunset District
SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- San Francisco is no stranger to sea lions, but you don't usually see them several blocks inland in San Francisco's Outer Sunset District.
Around 1:30 a.m. Thursday, a sea lion pup, who has now been named "Irving," was spotted near 48th and Irving Streets.

The Marine Mammal Center says that trained responders joined officers from the San Francisco Police Department and San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department rangers to help safely corral Irving and take him to the ranger station near Kezar Stadium.
From there, a Marine Mammal Center responder determined it would be best that Irving be held at the ranger station until they were able to coordinate a transfer to the center's Sausalito hospital around mid-morning.
Center officials say it's unknown why Irving was found so far away from their usual habitat, but that the sea lion pup will receive veterinary care and be evaluated for any underlying ailments.
In a statement sent to ABC7 Eyewitness News, the center said, " We are grateful for the quick action, dedication, and support from our partners that allowed this young animal to be rescued in the wee hours of the morning, giving Irving a second chance."
They would also like to remind people to always keep their distance from marine mammals and call the center's rescue hotline to report animals in need at 415-289-SEAL (7325).
