Woman accused in SF crash that killed 2-year-old pedestrian charged

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A woman accused in a fatal crash that killed a 2-year-old pedestrian who was crossing the road in San Francisco's Mission Bay neighborhood, has been charged with vehicular manslaughter.

She is set to be arrainged Tuesday for the crash that happened in February at the intersection of 4th and Channel Streets.

Investigators say the driver failed to yield to the child and her mother, who were in a crosswalk, and had the right of way.

The child died while her mother, who was injured, survived.

"It is a reminder that we have a long way to go with respect to road safety here in San Francisco and that we must be more serious about protecting those who are pedestrians in our city and are crossing our streets," said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins as she announced the charges against the driver.

Investigators say drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
