TIMELINE: Red Flag Warning with high fire danger as Bay Area heats up

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Significantly hotter weather is arriving Wednesday and intensifying Thursday with moderate to major heat risk and high fire danger. Here's what to expect.

Red Flag Warning, high fire danger

The first Red Flag Warning in the Bay Area since November 2024 has been expanded to include the East Bay Hills and the North Bay mountains. A Red Flag Warning will also be in effect for northern Solano County and much of the Sacramento Valley Wednesday and Thursday.

The highest risk will be Thursday morning between 1 and 8 a.m.

Any new fires that start could exhibit extreme fire behavior and rapid rates of spread.

The high fire danger is coming from a combination of the hottest temperatures far this year, gusty winds, and very low humidity.

Several days of hot weather

Wednesday will see temps go above average into the 80s and 90s across much of the region.

Heat intensifies Thursday and for many Inland cities, this will be the hottest weather so far this year.

Heat relief will arrive beginning Saturday.
