OKLAHOMA COUNTY, Okla. -- A dramatic escape was caught on body camera video after a suspected copper thief in Oklahoma jumped through a closed window.
"This is an experienced deputy, he'd never seen anything quite like it before, and by the time that he got outside, our suspect was long gone," Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office's Aaron Brilbeck said.
Body camera video shows when a suspect dove through a closed window to escape a deputy investigating a burglary at a vacant home in Oklahoma County off of Sunset Lane on October 1.
The sheriff's office said the suspect appeared to be stealing copper from the appliances.
The deputy tried to track down the suspect in his patrol car, and then launched a drone to try to find him from the air, but was not successful.
But then there was a key piece of evidence left, along with a bicycle.
"He was good enough to leave behind his backpack, and inside his backpack was his driver's license, so it made it really easy to identify him," Brilbeck said.
The sheriff's office says the suspect has a history of theft and drug-related charges.
Despite leaving his driver's license behind, the suspect at last check remained on the run.
