SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Downtown San Francisco's retail recovery is set to gain another major tenant with the addition of a new Nordstrom Rack store near Union Square.
Mayor Daniel Lurie announced Wednesday on Instagram that Nordstrom Rack will open at 2 Stockton St. The store is expected to occupy 50,000 square feet at the corner of Stockton and Market streets near Union Square.
"Nordstrom Rack is coming to 2 Stockton Street. 50,000 square feet. Fall 2027. Let's go San Francisco," he said.
The Seattle-based company has a long history in San Francisco. It previously served as the anchor tenant at the San Francisco Centre mall, and it operated another Nordstrom Rack location at 5th and Market Streets. Both locations closed in 2023.

Since then, a "Nordstrom Local" store opened on Fillmore Street, but it is for online pickups, returns, tailoring and personal styling appointments instead of carrying traditional retail inventory.
The new Nordstrom Rack location is scheduled to open in fall 2027.
"Nordstrom has a long history in San Francisco, and we're excited to bring Nordstrom Rack back downtown," co-CEO Erik Nordstrom said in a statement. "The city has many wonderful assets, and it has clearly built momentum in making downtown a great place for customers. We look forward to welcoming new and returning Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack customers to our store."
