The California Highway Patrol released dashcam footage of a collision caused by a Tesla in self-driving mode that injured two officers in Solano County this week.

Just before midnight on Tuesday, a Tesla containing a 22-year-old man from Sacramento plowed head-on into the back of a CHP cruiser near Air Base Parkway in Fairfield. The CHP had shut down several lanes for a separate incident and the patrol vehicle was stopped in one of them.

The Tesla struck the patrol vehicle with two officers inside, seriously injuring them, the CHP said. The agency said the Tesla did not heed flares, cones, and flashing emergency lights.

On Thursday, the CHP released dashcam footage of the crash which shows the Tesla speeding down the freeway and ramming into the back of the CHP cruiser.

According to the CHP, the driver told them he was asleep in the vehicle and using the car's driver-assisted technology.

Both officers were sent to a hospital in Fairfield for treatment and later released. The 22-year-old driver was not injured.

"Full Self-Driving does not relieve drivers of their responsibility to keep everyone safe," said the CHP on social media. "As the driver, YOU are responsible for your vehicle's actions!"
