FREMONT, Calif. (KGO) -- Fremont police have released body camera and witness video showing the moments leading up to the fatal police shooting of a 62-year-old man who allegedly held two people hostage inside a care facility.

According to police, the incident occurred July 24 at about 3:30 p.m. when Edward Oliver Jr. barricaded himself in a room with two hostages.

Body camera video shows officers rushing into the facility after receiving reports of the situation. Police said a family member of the hostages helped provide information as officers responded.

Authorities said officers were able to see into the room through a window and observed three people inside: Oliver and the two hostages. Investigators said Oliver was pointing what was later determined to be an airsoft gun at one of the victims.

Police said Oliver eventually pointed the replica weapon toward officers. Witness video captured in a nearby hallway shows the moments before shots were fired.

According to police, officers repeatedly ordered Oliver to drop the weapon before firing into the room. Officers then entered the room and secured the scene.

Police said the two hostages were unharmed.

Officers immediately began providing medical aid to Oliver. He was transported to a hospital, where he later died.

Aegis Living told ABC7 Eyewitness News the incident stemmed from a family dispute. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
