'Scrubs' star Donald Faison raves about Season 2 of revival series, talented young actors
The cast of “Scrubs” is returning to Sacred Heart Hospital for Season 2 of the revival series.
Ahead of Wednesday night's premiere, entertainment reporter Joelle Garguilo spoke with actor Donald Faison about the new season, the show's next generation of characters and his longtime friendship with co-star Zach Braff.
Faison said the new season continues the show's familiar approach while introducing new talent.
“It's great. Some really talented young actors. It's gonna show this season because they've all got standout moments throughout the season. I'm an executive producer in the time where I've gotten to actually see shows before they've come out. We're sticking to the old formula but introducing so much. And so, I'm really excited for people to see it,” Faison said.
When asked how the revival is passing the baton to a new generation, Faison praised the younger cast members and said viewers will see them shine throughout the season.
The interview also touched on Faison's New York roots and his friendship with Braff. Asked to recall the early days of the original “Scrubs,” Faison described a memory from when both actors were living in New York.
“He was in town doing Shakespeare in the Park. I was doing Uptown Girls. The one thing I remember was one night, we're both in our underwear at our loft playing ping pong. And I was like, yay. I guess this is my best friend. This is... this is best friend territory right here. Because I don't think I'd ever do that with any other person,” Faison said.
When Garguilo noted that the story did not sound strange in the context of their friendship, Faison agreed.
“It wasn't weird at all. But we were both in tighty whities playing ping pong, drunk after the club,” he said.
Faison also said Braff is the godfather of two of his six children.
In a rapid-fire question segment, Faison said the most Turk-like thing about him is that “I'm a 50-year-old man, and I still behave like I'm in my twenties.”

Asked what makes him different from the character, he replied, “He's very responsible. I am not.”
When asked about a role he wanted but did not get, Faison said, “Every role that I've ever wanted and didn’t get the movie sucks, so wouldn't you like to know?”
On the last text message he sent Braff, Faison answered simply: “You up?”
As for whether years spent working in a fictional hospital left him with any real medical skills, Faison joked that he could perform stitches.
“I could stitch something up,” he said. “The application of the stitches might hurt a lot, but you will be sewn together."
Faison closed the interview with a tease about the new season.
“We pick up where we left off,” he said.
