SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A fatal motorcycle crash prompted a SigAlert Thursday morning near the Bay Bridge Toll Plaza, blocking lanes and causing significant delays for commuters.
The crash occurred just past the metering lights as drivers approached the span, according to traffic reports.
Authorities said the collision involved a motorcycle and resulted in a fatality.
The right lane and right shoulder were closed following the crash, leading to heavy congestion stretching back to the MacArthur Maze. Traffic along westbound Interstate 80 was moving slowly, with no gaps between vehicles as drivers headed toward the toll plaza.
Cameras near the tolls showed traffic already crowded as metering lights turned on at 5:21 a.m., while an Emeryville traffic camera captured a steady stream of slow-moving vehicles approaching the bridge.
Despite the backup near the toll plaza, traffic conditions improved beyond the crash site. Once past the incident, vehicles were moving freely across the span into San Francisco.
Officials had not released additional details about the crash as of Thursday morning.
